USS St. Louis Visits Nassau, Strengthening U.S.-Bahamas Partnership

NASSAU, Bahamas — The Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS St. Louis (LCS 19) arrived in Nassau, Bahamas, for a scheduled port visit on Sep. 21, providing an opportunity for U.S. Navy Sailors to engage with Bahamian leaders and maritime professionals while strengthening the longstanding relationship between the United States and The Bahamas.

U.S. Navy forces are deployed under U.S. Northern Command’s (USNORTHCOM) maritime homeland defense authorities in support of maritime homeland defense. USNORTHCOM is working together with the Department of Homeland Security to provide additional military forces and capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.

During the multi-day visit, the crew of St. Louis will participate in a series of professional engagements with Bahamian and U.S. maritime partners including the U.S. Coast Guard.

Additionally, command cadre from St. Louis will meet with members of the Executive Leadership Team of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) for a professional engagement aboard the ship. The interaction will provide an opportunity for senior leaders from both maritime forces to build relationships and exchange perspectives on shared regional interests.

Patrick Love, commanding officer of St. Louis. “Our time in The Bahamas allows us to strengthen those relationships, exchange operational perspectives and build the interoperability necessary to operate effectively alongside our regional partners.”

St. Louis’s visit to Nassau demonstrates the U.S. Navy's continued commitment to maintaining strong relationships with The Bahamas and other regional partners to ensure a secure and prosperous Caribbean.

U.S. 2nd Fleet is operating as Maritime Command Element-East (MCE-East) under U.S. Naval Forces Northern Command (NAVNORTH), the maritime component of U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM). MCE-E provides maritime forces prepared to conduct homeland defense, civil support operations and theater security cooperation activities when directed by USNORTHCOM. They provide operational planning and coordination support to USNORTHCOM as well as command and control subordinate forces during the planning and execution of joint missions.
